This was the second planting of fennel. I also have a third planting in a flat. I'm determined to have fennel. I'm really happy to see this taking off.
Below is the purple sprouting broccoli. Three plants survived. The third planting! (it's been a very difficult spring)

Carrots and parsley root.

Spinach

First real harvest

Buttercrunch lettuce, thinning of bunching onions, spinach, and the few berries whose blossoms escaped us. I was told that the first few weeks of blossoms should be removed so that the plant can gain strength and production of berries will be better.

I was just reading on another blog that you don't want fennel to go to seed because it will sprout up everywhere! I personally don't see that as a problem, but an opportunity.
That wouldn't be a problem for me either! It could have its own place in the garden as a reseeding annual! Like I used to have pinks.
It is lovely to see everyone elses veggie garden doing so well. I see that you have some marigolds underneath your tomatoes! I always grow a few marigolds among the veggies, they really help keep pests away.
I would like to put companion planting into practice more often than I do. I manage to pick up the marigolds rather inexpensively each year so I don't start them from seed.
I was hoping to find some nasturtiums since mine never came up. I soaked the seeds for more than a day.
